An austenitic steel with outstanding oxidation resistance, high-temperature strength, and creep resistance, stainless steel 309S Plates can be fabricated and machined readily. SS 309S Plates have a lower nickel content and are more resistant to sulfur attack at high temperatures. Stainless Steel 309S Plates are tough and ductile, and they can be easily machined and fabricated. Compared to 304 stainless steel, Stainless Steel 309S Plates have high corrosion resistance and strength.
A stainless steel UNS S309S00 Plate is hot worked at 1177 degrees Celsius (2150 degrees Fahrenheit), reheated at 982 degrees Celsius (1800 degrees Fahrenheit), and then quenched rapidly. A post-work annealing can restore its corrosion resistance.
Stainless Steel 309S Plates are the lower carbon version of grade 309S and provide excellent forming and welding characteristics. They are easily weldable with any resistance and fusion method. SS UNS S309S00 Sheets are recommended for applications where sensitization and corrosion by high-temperature gases or condensates during shutdown may pose a problem. Stainless Steel 309S Plates can be used for boiler baffles, furnace components, oven linings, fire box sheets, and other high-temperature containers. The sheets and plates have high tensile strength, high toughness, ductility, durability, and stability at high temperatures, among other properties.
