DETAILED INFORMATION
When orifice plates or flow nozzles are used, orifice flanges are used in place of standard pipe flanges. In other words, orifice flanges are used with orifice meters. These flanges are used in various industrial applications, and they are available in a variety of sizes and materials. They are used to measure the flow rate of gases or liquids in their respective pipelines. With each orifice flange unit, you receive a plate, pressure connection holes, and jack screws.
- Orifice Flanges are often used in connection with orifice plates or meters in pipes to measure the flow of liquids in a system, which might be water, gas, or any other liquid. The orifice flange can also be used as part of an orifice plate if the pipe joints have orifice plates or meters.
- In terms of the type of orifice flange, there are several types, such as welding neck orifice flanges, slip-on orifice flanges, and threaded orifice flanges. The range of orifice flanges cover all standard sizes and ranges, as well as all common materials used for flanges.
- A RF or RTJ type face orifice flange is used for high pressure applications. The RTJ type face orifice flange is meant for pressures above 3,000 PSI. The matched flange must also have a RTJ type face and be able to seal up against the orifice and reduce leakage.
A major manufacturer of stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, and special alloy orifice flanges in sizes ranging from 1/2′′ to 60′′, Purohit Pipe Industries is one of the largest companies in the industry producing and forging orifice flanges to specifications of ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47, ASME B16.48, BS EN 1092, BS 4504, API-605, API-590, MSSSP44, DIN 2632 to 2638, DIN 2576, 2642, 2527, 2566. At Metline, orifice flanges cover a full range of pressure ratings of these specifications (150 – 2500 psi for ASME & PN6-PN400 for DIN/EN flanges). In addition, we manufacture non-standard orifice flanges in aluminium, special alloys, and copper nickel.

What are the Orifice flanges 900/1500/2500?
Orifice flanges are a special type of flange that is used in pipelines to measure the flow rate of fluids, gases, or steam flowing through the pipeline. There are a number of flanges available that are designed to accommodate a thin metal plate called an orifice plate, which has a hole precisely drilled in the center of it.
It is important to understand that the numbers 900, 1500, and 2500 refer to the pressure ratings of the orifice flanges. As part of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B16.5 standard, which specifies the dimensions and tolerances for various types of flanges, these pressure ratings are defined.
The orifice flange with a pressure rating of 900 is capable of withstanding a maximum pressure of 900 pounds per square inch (psi) and is capable of withstanding a maximum pressure of 900 psi. A flange with a pressure rating of 1500 can handle a maximum pressure of 1500 pounds per square inch, whereas a flange with a pressure rating of 2500 can handle a maximum pressure of 2500 pounds per square inch.
As a matter of fact, it is important to note that the orifice flange pressure rating should be chosen according to the operating conditions of the pipeline, such as the pressure, temperature, and type of fluid or gas being transported. As a result of choosing the wrong pressure rating, leakage, equipment failure, and other safety hazards can occur.
Key Features of Orifice Flanges 900/1500/2500:
- There are two types of facings available: raised faces and ring type joints (RTJs).
- There are modifications to the orifice flanges with radial tapped holes in the ring of the flange that are used to connect the meter.
- In these flanges you will find the orifice plate carriers which are used for the purpose of fitting the meter connections to them.
- As an additional bolt is available, it can be used as a jack to allow the two flanges of the orifice plate to be separated in order to change the orifice plate or for other relevant services such as inspections, etc.
Uses of orifice flanges for 900/1500/2500:
- The primary use of an orifice flange is to measure the flow rate of water in piping systems by use of flow/rate meters.
- Typically, they are used for all types of heavy-duty applications, such as weld necks and slip-on flanges with some extra machining being done.

What are the Orifice flanges 900/1500/2500 for advantages and disadvantages?
It is important to note that orifice flanges with pressure ratings of 900, 1500, and 2500 have specific advantages and disadvantages, which can be summarized as follows:
These advantages include:
- An orifice flange is designed to accommodate an orifice plate that has a precisely drilled hole in the center of it, which is used to measure the flow precisely. As a result of this design, orifice flanges can accurately measure the flow rate of fluids, gases, or steam, which makes them excellent choices for applications that require flow measurement of fluids, gases, or steam.
- The cost-effectiveness of orifice flanges can be attributed to the fact that these devices are generally less expensive than other types of flow measurement devices, such as flow meters. In addition, they are easy to install and maintain, which further reduces their overall cost as a result.
- It is important to remember that orifice flanges can be used with a wide range of fluids, gases, and steam, making them a versatile choice for various applications.
Its disadvantages include:
- The main disadvantage of orifice flanges is that they can lead to a significant pressure drop in the pipeline, which is one of their major disadvantages. As a result of this pressure drop, energy can be lost, and the efficiency of the pipeline can be reduced.
- It is important to note that orifice flanges are generally accurate, however, their accuracy is generally limited by the size of the orifice plate and the flow conditions in the pipeline. The use of sophisticated flow measurement devices such as flowmeters may be required in order to obtain highly accurate flow measurements.
- Wear and tear: Flanges are subject to wear and tear over time, especially if the fluid or gas being transported is corrosive or abrasive, which is the case with orifice flanges. In the long run, this will lead to inaccuracies in the flow measurement and eventually will require the replacement of the orifice plate as a result.
