When the solution is annealed, this material is malleable and soft. The yield strength and hardness of EN 42 Hex Bars are enhanced by precipitation hardening or aging. In order to achieve the desired strength levels, some alloys require multiple hardening processes.
Despite its moderate tensile strength, EN 42 Spring Steel Round Bar is ideal for engineering applications. This is due to the material’s many other properties besides its mechanical strength.
By adding manganese and silicon to the alloy, EN 42 Spring Steel Rods’ corrosion resistance is improved. Approximately 0.70% of the total weight of EN 42 Bright Bars is carbon, which is a higher percentage than in most carbon steels. Tempering can be used to improve the mechanical strength of EN42 Round Bars in addition to precipitation hardening.
Bright-drawn key steel is available in flat and square sections. Key steel is widely used in general engineering for components such as plain, gibhead, taper, and parallel keys. Essential steel is produced to the required tolerances specified in British Standards BS46 and BS4235. Carbon spring steel specifications EN42, CS70, CS80, CS95, and CS100 are available as hardened and tempered spring steel strips, annealed spring steel strips, spring steel plates, and spring steel sheets. EN43 spring steel is available in the bar and plate. BS970, BS1449, BS EN10083-1, BS EN10083-2, BS EN 10277, and BS EN 10278 are commonly usedstandards.X120Mn12 1.3401 is a manganese steel with 1% carbon steel and an 11% to 14% manganese content supplied in the plate. Machanability
Long, gummy chips characterize this alloy’s machinability. It can be machined in the annealed condition. However, condition H1150M will yield the best results. Post-machining solution treatment of parts will be required before final hardening if machining in this condition.
Heat Treatment
CONDITION A–Soak at 1900 F (1038 C) for 30 minutes and cool below 60 F (16 C) for complete martensite transformation. CONDITION H 950- Treat Condition A material at 900 F(482 C) for 1 hour, air cool.. CONDITION H925, H1025, H1075, H1100, H1150- Soak solution treated material for 4 hours at a specified temperature, air cool, CONDITION H1150M- Soak solution treated material at 1400 F (760 C) for 2 hours, air cool, then re-heat to 1150 F (620 C) for 4 hours and air cool.
Welding
Successfully welded by joint fusion and resistance methods, this alloy should be joined by something other than oxyacetylene welding. AWS E/ER630 filler metal is recommended if required.
They Are Forging
Soak for 1 hour at 2150 F (1177 C) prior to forging. Do not work below 1850 F (1010 C). Post-work solution treatment is required before final hardening.
